Sylvie Short, née Sylvia Coleman

Sylvie grew up in the village of Swaffham Prior and was a pupil at Ely High School from 1958 to 1963.

Trained as a teacher of English and Drama, she is a Member of The Laban Guild, and has won several prizes for both acting and production. While teaching, Sylvie gained a Masters Degree in ‘Language and the Arts’ from Sussex University. After nearly forty years in the teaching profession, sixteen of them as the head teacher of a successful primary school, she has retired to concentrate on writing full time.

In retirement Sylvie has tried bell-ringing, (but the bells bit back); spent several years as a Parish Councillor; been a Eucharistic Minister; established and runs Walk Upwell a popular local walking club and contributes to the parish newsletter. Sylvie has had some success with her first published book, an allegory called The Bubble.

Her second published novel, Home to Roost is a very readable family saga set in East Anglia. The storyline is based on a traumatic event in the life of someone she knows well. This book has potential for ‘spin-off’ stories at some time in the future.

She has also had several short stories published in Cambridgeshire County Life magazine, (These may soon be put together as an anthology), and has been invited to write and submit more. A third novel, Starting Out is complete and will be published in 2012.

On 26th October 2013 her new book, Two Churches Together ~ A History of Swaffham Prior is being launched. The book is likely to have appeal to many ex-pupils who lived in Swaffham Prior and the general area. Copies of the book are available from her at £21 inc p&p.

Sylvie lives in East Anglia with her husband, Dave, a retired RAF navigator, who, when he is not playing with his boats, she keeps gainfully employed in harmless occupations like proof reading her manuscripts in a vain and fruitless attempt to prevent him from wasting time and getting into trouble.

Sylvie and Dave have one son, Alexander, an astrophysicist working for the European Space Agency; he lives in Holland with his wife Helen, and their two children, Eden and Francis.
